Outcrops can be used as analogues to the formation in the subsurface and can be used to evaluate the potential of a reservoir or formation where it reaches the surface. Weatherford Laboratories has decades of experience in working with these potentially challenging samples.
Outcrop data is commonly used in areas where there has been limited or no drilling activity. This data can be used for a variety of applications, including assessment of reservoir potential, stratigraphy, depositional features and environments, structural geology, and petrography. Basic rock properties, including permeability, porosity, capillary pressure, and mineralogy can also be ascertained.
